This little gem of a book is a joyous coming of age story that doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of life. This book is as much a love letter to Thailand as it is to the sport of Muay Thai boxing. It will engage all your senses in its description of the sights, smells and flavours of Thailand (be prepared to get hungry with the descriptions of Thai food!). You will feel like you're living in the mind and imagination of a young boy as you travel with him on his journey, both physical and spiritual, and you'll experience what it takes to commit yourself heart and soul to training for a sport that you love. You'll lose yourself in this world, and find yourself cheering the young group to a deeply satisfying and emotional conclusion.
This is a “Must Read Book” for anyone interested in Thai Boxing. Great knowledge of history, techniques, traditions and spirit that are culture of the sport. As the story unfolds and the different characters develop one gets consumed in the day to day life of a small village community. Without giving anything away, the story is about betting and the money some people will try to make, by any means on the back of someone’s talents. A great read!
This book has such a fantastic storyline. It was an easy read. You can almost see yourself watching a movie with the details. The characters really come to life and without giving too much away - Nog's spirit guides are a wonderful and creative invention.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves an entertaining read!
